Grand Velas Riviera Maya to Host Heads of State and Government Officials From Latin American and the Caribbean

Riviera Maya, Mexico (February 16, 2010) - Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort Riviera Maya will host the Grupo de Rio Summit, an international organization consisting of 33 Latin American and Caribbean heads of state and government officials, on February 22 and 23rd.

This exclusive resort, inaugurated last June by the President of the Republic of Mexico, Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, will also host 14 members of the Mexico-Caricom Summit on February 21st.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya, the only resort in Mexico and South America awarded the "2009 Commitment Quality Award" by The Leading Hotels of the World, was selected as the venue of these two important multilateral summits for its natural beauty of jungle and white sand beach, dramatic architecture in the finest Mexican tradition, world-class restaurants, privacy and quality of service.

The majestic resort, whose presidential suites were named among the top 101 hotel suites of the world by Elite Traveler magazine, will accommodate the heads of state and government officials and their respective party members. The accommodations consist of six 3,000 square-foot plus presidential suites with panoramic ocean views and 491 luxury suites located in three different ambiances - Ambassador, Grand Class and Master.

The resort's modern and spacious convention center was selected by Revista MDC as one of the top in Mexico for meetings and conventions.  Featuring a total of 91,457 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, the convention center has the capacity to hold this type of high-level function for top Latin American and Caribbean officials.

The $250 million resort is situated on 205 acres just five minutes from Playa del Carmen. One of its top amenities is the 89,305 square-foot spa specializing in signature treatments inspired by ancient cultures from around the world.

The heads of state and government officials will also enjoy a culinary tour at the resort's five gourmet restaurants: Frida, Lucca, Sen Lin, Piaf and Cocina de Autor, the latter whose chefs are disciples of Spanish celebrity Chef Arzak. The restaurants offer the most varied, sophisticated dining experiences in the Riviera Maya.

The Grupo Rio current members include Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela and the Caribbean Community or Caricom, which includes 27 countries.
