New Artisanal Ceramics from Javier Servín and Mayolica Santa Rosa Now Available at Grand Velas Riviera Maya Boutiques

Continues Velas Resorts' Commitment to Bringing the

Best of Mexican Art, Crafts and Fashion to Guests in Resort Boutiques

Riviera Maya, Mexico (September 4, 2018) - The AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya has expanded its boutique art and craft offerings to include traditional Mexican ceramics. Available in the resort's boutiques, the newest additions include plates, cups, pots, jewelry, vases and more from leading artists Javier Servín Cerámica and Mayolica Santa Rosa. The new offerings expand Velas Resorts' commitment to showcasing Mexican art and fashion which already includes fashion shows and popup exhibits from renowned and up-and-coming designers, Oaxacan wood sculptures by Hoja Verde and fine Mexican jewelry with precious and semiprecious stones by Lyne Jewels at the other properties in the collection.

Originating from Guanajuato, the handmade ceramics from Javier Servin unite reality with fantasy, creating unique pieces, free of lead and with a lasting color thanks to its high-temperature cooking. The different objects are guided by Servin's imagination to mix colors and shapes to obtain a unique, unrepeatable piece. Each piece has a distinguishing blue mark, a recognized trait of Servin's ceramics. The designs are made to be used in everyday life.

Originating in the 16th century in Spain, Mayolica is a porous ceramic which derived its name from Mallorca Island, which was on the shipping trade route to Italy. Mayolica Santa Rosa's pottery process is done by hand, which makes them authentic crafts and all unique pieces. The Mexican potters adapted the Mayolica to their tastes, creating a different and spontaneous style. Mayolica pottery is primarily distinguished by the milky-white glaze used after the first firing. Mayolica pottery is a diverse category of clay arts under which, Spanish-influenced Talavera and Italian Maiolica are sub-genres. Mexican Majolica primarily differs from traditional Talavera in the art form and use of colors. Its decorative motifs are traditional and produce objects of daily use for the dining room and home.
